Indigo Handloom & Ikat

This fall, Indigo Handloom will unveil ikat scarves handwoven in the Orissa region of India.

As reported on Fibre2Fashion.com, the home of ikat weaving is about to become home to the second largest handloom park in India through a combination of government and private funding.  Over 2,000 looms will be set up in a 25-acre area in the village of Katapali, in the costal state of Orissa.  The Orissa region is known for its amazing ikat weaving, both in cotton and silk.  And the ikat park will encourage new weavers to learn the art of ikat weaving.  It is projected that the park will provide employment to about 3,000 workers.

Looks like we’re not the only ones who thought it would be a good idea to support the ancient tradition of ikat weaving!
